Between 2016 and 2025, Günter Schirmer worked at the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly as the Head of Department of Legal Affairs and Human Rights, overseeing the secretariats of the Committees on Legal Affairs and Human Rights and on Election of judges at the ECtHR.

Previously, he was the Executive Secretary of the Council of Europe Development Bank.

Before joining the Council of Europe, in 1993, he worked as a civil servant at the German Federal Ministry of Finance and a judge at the Landgericht in Bonn. Back in the 1980’s, he taught German and comparative law at King’s College (London) and criminal law and procedure at the University of Passau.

Former Turkish judge. He served as a justice counsellor at the Permanent Delegation of Turkey to the EU (Brussels) from 2011 to 2014. Aydin graduated from Ankara University Law Faculty and obtained his first Master’s degree in EU Law and European Human Rights Law from Exeter University (UK). His second Master’s degree was on Interdisciplinary EU Studies from the Institut d’études européennes of the Université libre de Bruxelles. He is a Rule of Law laureate of Iustitia 2021 awards and continues his advocacy for democracy.

A founding member in 1968, she was the first woman elected to head the French Magistrates’ Union in 1982. She was also the first woman to lead a union in France.

She is among the founders of MEDEL (European Magistrates’ Association for Democracy).

She served as a judge at the Bordeaux Court of Appeal, presided over the Limoges Regional Court, before serving as a judge at the Versailles Court of Appeal and as a presiding judge at the Versailles Court of Appeal.
